Transcend: Across, Beyond, and Through:  An exhibit featuring student-designed typefaces at Anderson University.

Senior Symposia 2023

Born in Brooklyn, New York to Colombian parents from Barranquilla, Vanessa Dominguez is a Latina designer whose practice is rooted in intentionality, honesty, and community. Her introduction to design was not through formal study, but through service, taking initiative as a teenager to lead creative work for her church. What began as a personal and spiritual expression evolved into a professional pursuit, leading her to earn a BFA in Graphic Design with a minor in Marketing from the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University.

Vanessa’s work spans branding, typography, UX, strategy, and photography, all shaped by her belief that design is a collaborative act of care, capable of connecting people and empowering change. Whether leading DEI efforts in AIGA, interning at FerebeeLane, or designing at Cargo, she approaches every project with empathy and curiosity, grounded in her values and cultural identity.

Her experiences as a bilingual Latina navigating creative spaces have inspired her to advocate for accessibility, representation, and systems that uplift emerging designers.

She draws creative energy from her faith, the natural world, and moments of wonder; seeing design not just as a profession, but as a way of dreaming alongside others. With a thoughtful and people-first approach, Vanessa continues to build a practice that prioritizes meaning over perfection and connection over convention.
